Financial Literacy Education With Women’s Saving Groups

In a bid to promote financial inclusion and improve economic opportunities for the unbanked women in Zambia, FINCA, recently conducted a financial literacy education event for women’s saving groups. The event which was held in Lusaka, right in the communities, aimed to equip women with knowledge and skills to manage their personal finances effectively, make informed financial decisions, and support the growth of their small businesses. The day-long interactive session saw the participation of 50 women groups from various saving groups in the country.

“The lack of access to financial education has been a significant barrier for many women in Zambia. This event was aimed at addressing this issue by providing them with tools and resources to enhance their financial knowledge and empower them with new skills,” said John Mutobo, Delivery Channels Manager, FINCA Zambia.

The event kicked off with an introduction to basic financial concepts, including budgeting, saving, and investing. Participants were engaged through informative presentations, interactive discussions, and group activities. The Women were also given practical tips on how to assess financial services through their mobile devices (Mobile Banking), remote account opening and making cash conversion points available at their doorsteps using locally based FINCA Agents. Topics such as the importance of emergency funds, retirement planning, and the role of insurance were also covered.

Participants left the event feeling empowered and equipped with newfound knowledge and skills. Many expressed their gratitude to FINCA Zambia for organizing such an impactful initiative. This financial literacy education is part of FINCA Zambia’s broader commitment to promoting financial inclusion and empowering women in the country. By educating women on financial matters, the organization aims to break the cycle of poverty, enable entrepreneurship, and contribute to the overall economic development of Zambia.
